News Just In4/29/2010 I was contacted on 28th April 2010 by the photo editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine (The Czech Republic version) who in the near future will be writing an article about the Moulin Rouge performer Jane Avril.
Now granted, i'm sure I won't understand a word of it when it's published but it's nice to know that Jane still attracts that amount of interest. They are currently looking for High Resolution pictures of Jane that can be used to accompany the article and I have directed them in regard to this. I do hope that it will work out for them and that the article is published so that the story of Jane's remarkable life can reverberate throughout the Czech Republic and beyond. I have invited them to send me a copy of the article when it becomes available. I will keep you all informed if there are any future developments. Craig

An American In Paris4/28/2010 I was watching An American In Paris (1951) last Friday and was pleasantly suprised to view a tribute to Toulouse- Lautrec and what could only have been a nod to Jane Avril.
It was in the last musical sequence of the film that Jerry Mulligan (played by the legend that is Gene Kelly) took on the part of "Chocolat" the muscular, white tighted Toulouse-Lautrec character. The scene took place in a Montmartre cafe setting with blonde Can Can girls led by Lise Bouvier (played by Lesley Caron - Kelly's love interest in the film and a fine dancer) who I can only assume was playing the role of Jane Avril. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I hope I'm not. Look out also for Adam Cook (played by Oscar Levant) the struggling concert pianist who slips into a daydream fantasy and performs on the grand stage. A fantastic pianist who exhibits his skills and who comically takes on the roles of the violin players, conductor and admiring fans in the box. Quite Brilliant! The Problem!4/24/2010 I want to visit Paris in 2011.
The Problem! After visits in 2000, 2007, 2009 and a visit booked in 2010 - how do I convince my better half that a visit to Paris in 2011 is justified? Hmmm........I can't, darn it! The "Craig, you're too nostalgic you need to have a change and go somewhere different" speech awaited me. I needed a plan and so after some considerable thought a recent conversation went like this. "Hang on...." "Have I not always said that I want to run a marathon before my 40th Birthday?" "Yes....so?" "Didn't I always say that I could never run the London Marathon as it just does not inspire me?" "Yes....so?" "Am I not 40 in November 2010?" "Yes....so?" "Isn't there a Paris marathon every April?" "Yes....so?" "So doesn't it make perfect sense to run the Paris marathon that will inspire me in April 2011 as I will be 40?" "Yes....So, I guess you win!" Woohoo!! Paris 2011 here I come. Now then Just have to devise a plan for 2012! Good luck to all those running the London Marathon tomorrow - my thoughts are with you. Lord Arthur Savile's Crime4/2/2010 Hello readers
Last night, I went to watch Lord Arthur Savile's Crime by Oscar Wilde at The Grand Theatre in Leeds staring Gary Wilmot (Mr Septimus Podgers), Lee Mead (Lord Arthur Savile), Derren Nesbitt (Herr Winckelkopf), David Ross (The Dean of Chichester) and Kate O'Mara (Lady Windermere). It was throroughly enjoyable! It was the first time I had seen a live work by Oscar Wilde and caught a little glimpse into how Victorian Society must have reacted to his work and in particular his take on relationships and marriage! If you should ever get the opportunity to see it, you should. Failing that read the story for yourself. A wonderful spectacle!! Bravo!! Categories |
